Overview

It  is a fully intact caldera that did not turn in to a lake, though small crater lakes are inside the caldera making it the 8th wonder of the world. The conservation area is a home of over 500 bird species ranging from endemic species, migratory and forest birds to 25000 large animals including the extinct Black Rhino.

The Ngorongoro Conservation area is a pioneering experiment where the indigenous people (the Masai), their livestock and the wildlife co-exist and share the same protected habitat. It is not unusual to see the Masai people grazing their herds in the morning or afternoon in the vicinity of the crater.

Tour Plan

Your exciting day trip to the Ngorongoro Crater begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation in Arusha. As you embark on this unforgettable journey, you’ll travel through the stunning landscapes of Tanzania, with views of lush greenery and the unique charm of local villages along the way. The anticipation builds as you approach one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the world, the Ngorongoro Crater—a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its remarkable wildlife and stunning scenery.

Upon arrival at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will descend into the crater, a massive caldera formed millions of years ago. This unique ecosystem is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, and you’ll be greeted by panoramic views of the lush grasslands and the vibrant wildlife that calls this place home. Your game drive begins as you explore the crater floor, where you might encounter large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and buffalo, as well as the magnificent African elephants roaming the acacia woodlands.

As you navigate through the crater, keep an eye out for the elusive black rhinoceros, one of the rarest species on the planet, often spotted grazing peacefully in this sanctuary. The variety of habitats within the crater supports an abundance of wildlife, including lions, hyenas, and a myriad of bird species, making it a photographer's paradise.

Around midday, you'll stop for a picnic lunch at a scenic viewpoint within the crater, allowing you to relax and take in the breathtaking surroundings while enjoying your meal. The atmosphere is serene, providing a perfect moment to appreciate the beauty of nature.

After lunch, your exploration continues as you venture deeper into the crater. The diverse landscapes, from open grasslands to dense forests, offer countless opportunities for wildlife sightings. You may witness the dramatic interactions between predators and prey, or simply marvel at the beauty of the crater's unique flora and fauna.

In the late afternoon, as your day of exploration comes to an end, you'll ascend back to the crater rim, soaking in the last glimpses of this natural wonder. The drive back to Arusha will be filled with reflections on a day well spent in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes.

You will return to your accommodation in the evening, filled with cherished memories of a spectacular day trip to Ngorongoro Crater.

The meal plan for the day includes a packed lunch, ensuring you have the energy to fully enjoy your safari adventure.
