Overview

Our seven-day Tanzania Safari, “KASMA (The Crossing Speciality),” provides a close-up view of one of nature’s most dramatic events: the wildebeest migration. The adventure begins in Arusha, where you settle in after you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. On day two, you'll enter the legendary Serengeti, driving through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands with a stop at the historic Olduvai Gorge.

In the Central Serengeti, you'll witness vast herds gathering in preparation for their incredible journey. Over the next several days, you’ll explore the northern Serengeti, where the action intensifies as wildebeest and zebras face the challenge of crossing the Mara River. Crocodiles lurk beneath the surface, making each crossing a high-stakes spectacle.

Enjoy the option of a serene balloon ride over the Serengeti or extend your adventure with a beach holiday on Tanzania’s beautiful islands before returning to Arusha for your departure.

Tour Plan

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) which is about 50Km away from Arusha city. You will be met by your Safari guide, who will then take you to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Today you will head to THE SERENGETI (Africa’s leading national park for four consecutive years 2019-2022). Serengeti means “endless plains” in Ki-Maasai. Drive through the East African Escarpment into the Ngorongoro Highlands, and stop along the way at Olduvai Gorge. Located between Lake Natron and Lake Eyasi, the gorge is an archeological site of immense importance, before finally descending 300ft into the volcanic Serengeti plains, your home for the next five nights. Enjoy your first game drive into Central Serengeti with sumptuous lunch hampers prepared in a special home kitchen just for you.

At the end of the calving season, wildebeest and the entourage start to congregate on the Southern plains in preparation for the 800km Northward journey. During this period, the herds of more than a million migrating animals marching in a braying column of up to 40km long, through Central Serengeti is one of the most impressive spectacle in the world.

Add a visit to Olduvai Gorge Museum for a historic experience.

After a late relaxed breakfast, you will head towards the north western part of Serengeti with lunch hampers to enjoy on the way as well as the game drive.

Spend the next 3 days experiencing “The Crossing” and exploring this part of Serengeti at your own pace and time. You may take picnic hampers prepared for you at the lodge or drive back to the lodge for a hot sumptuous meal.

Experience “The Crossing” at Grumeti or Mara River through the north western corridor. The Dramatic scene ensue as hundreds of wildebeest and zebras plunge in to the river, in a desperate attempt to reach the other side before the rivers’ ravenous and prolific population of outsized crocodiles feed on them.

The first herds to cross are generally at a greater risk. It can take up to two weeks from when the first herd arrives the southern bank of the river for the actual crossing to begin, by when thousands of herds are congregated in the western corridor.
Add a balloon safari over the Serengeti for an extraordinary experience.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kogatende Airstrip for your flight to Arusha. Optional day room can be arranged before transferring to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your outbound flight back home.
Add an extension to a beach holiday in one of the Tanzanian Indian Ocean Islands.
