After a hearty breakfast, you will head to the highlands of the Ngorongoro crater gaining your first views of this incredible natural wonder. The Ngorongoro Conservation area is a pioneering experiment where the indigenous people (the Masai), their livestock and the wildlife co-exist and share the same protected habitat.
It is not unusual to see the Masai people grazing their herds in the morning or afternoon in the vicinity of the crater. You may spend the afternoon visiting and experiencing the indigenous masai culture by visiting their Bomas, or you may opt to trek to the Empakai Crater with a trained and experienced ranger. Dinner and overnight on the Crater rim.
At the dawn of the following day You descend into the caldera for a day of game viewing taking a picnic hamper to enjoy on the crater floor. The stunning spectacle of this Unesco World Heritage site, with its steep walls falling some 610m to the floor, is undoubtedly one of the highlights of a safari in Tanzania.
The crater floor is home to thousands of plain animals, including the rare black rhino. The number of resident black rhinos is increasing, so you may be lucky to see some of them against the spectacular backdrop of the caldera’s cliff face.
Add a bush lunch in a private picnic site on the crater floor for an extraordinary experience.
Add a trekking experience in to the Empakai Crater.
