Mount Kilimanjaro

Babji Tours & Safaris Ltd

The roof of Africa and the tallest free standing Mountain in the world.

Mt Kilimanjaro can be ascended by anybody without specialized mountaineering experience.
While climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, trekkers will experience a journey to the summit like going from the Equator to Antarctica.

With five distinctive ecological zones on their way to the top, Kilimanjaro can be climbed at any time of year, but the hike is more challenging in the rainy months of March to May.

The Zones:
Bushland/Cultivated Zone: 2,600ft-6,000ft
Rainforest Zone: 6,000ft-9,200ft
Heath/Moorland Zone: 9,200ft-13,200ft
Alpine Desert Zone: 13,200ft-16,500ft
Arctic Zone: 16,500ft-19341ft

The Routes:

Marangu route
Marangu, also known as “Coca-Cola” route is the most popular route on Kilimanjaro today. It is less arduous than most of the other routes as well as having better facilities, as It’s the only route where overnight stays are in huts throughout with bathing water and bottled drinks available too. This makes Marangu a good option for hiking during the rainy season.

Machame route
Machame route also known as “the Whiskey Route”, offers a wide variety of views, landscapes and magical experiences. It is regarded to be most scenic with great views across to Mt Meru.

Umbwe route
Daring experienced climbers seeking adventure and challenge will find just what they want on Umbwe. A short steep climb traversing all the climate zones – from tropical rainforest to eternal ice – will put your strength and endurance to the test. Like no other route it gives a sense of achievement to those who reach the summit.

Rongai route
Rongai is the only route that passes by Mawenzi, one of the three volcanic cones of Kilimanjaro and the third highest peak in Africa. The way back lies through Marangu, and thus you will be able to see both sides of the mountain.

Lemosho route
Featuring captivating scenic vistas, pristine wildlife, excellent acclimatization opportunities and low traffic of climbers, Lemosho is one of the favorite for reaching the roof of Africa.

Shira route
Shira Route starts at 3,600 meters and is therefore not ideal for trekkers who have little or no experience of high altitude trekking. The Shira Route is practically identical to the Lemosho Route. In fact, Shira was the original route before Lemosho was created to improve the route start point.
